Dr. Aaron and Melissa McGuffin

Dr. Aaron McGuffin is the Program Director for the Department of Medicine-Pediatrics. He was born and raised in Huntington, West Virginia, and completed much of his undergraduate work at Eastern Kentucky University where he also played college tennis. He completed his medical school at Marshall University School of Medicine in 1999 and the Medicine-Pediatric residency program here in 2003. Board certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, Dr. McGuffin's clinical responsibilities include both inpatient and outpatient duties in both the department of internal medicine and pediatrics. Dr. McGuffin teaches Pediatric Board Review to the pediatric residents and is actively involved in teaching medical students in their clerkships. He was promoted in July 2005 to the position of Senior Associate Dean for Medical Student Education where he oversees the medical school curriculum and assists in LCME accreditation for the school. Dr. McGuffin is actively involved in curriculum development and USMLE board preparation for the medical students having created both a Step 1 and Step 2 Board Review Course for the students. Dr. McGuffin's research interests are in academic medicine and most recently interventions regarding childhood obesity in West Virginia. Dr. McGuffin is married to his wonderful wife Melissa for 13 years. Melissa is an accomplished dancer and choreographer and studio owner of Premiere Dance Studio (www.premieredancestudio.com). They have two children, Katelyn age 13 & Ryan age 9, who enjoy soccer, tennis, ping pong, board games and making each other laugh, especially at the expense of their father, who loves them anyway.

  Dr. Shannon Browning
Assistant Professor

Shannon is a Huntington native that went to the University of Kentucky and graduated form their pharmacy school in 1995.  She then went back to medical school and graduated from Marshall University Joan C Edwards School of Medicine in 2004.  She graduated from the Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program at Marshall in August 2008 and has since join the Departments of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics as an Assistant Professor.  She was also  named the Assistant Program Director of the Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program.

She is married with a son and enjoys many of the activities that Huntington has to offer including the YMCA, Ritter Park and the local shops.  She is excited to begin her medical career at Marshall University and hopes to be a part of the community for many years to come.


Bob Miller, M.D.

Dr. Bob Miller is a native of Ashland, Kentucky.  A graduate of Marshall University School of Medicine, he stayed in Huntington to complete the Medicine-Pediatrics Residency program.  After serving as a faculty member in the department for a year, Dr. Miller moved to Houston, Texas to complete a neonatology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine.  Dr. Miller returned July 1, 2005 as is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics.  He is also board certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics as well as Neonatology. Dr. Miller was appointed as the Residency Training Director for the Department of Pediatrics Residency Program July 1, 2006.  His special interest is medical bioethics. 
   

Lynn Patterson, M.D.

Lynn is a West Virginia native who completed nursing school in 1987, but returned to the books to complete her medical degree at Marshall University. She completed her Medicine/Pediatrics residency training here at Marshall. She is now Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine.  Lynn has a 8 year old daughter, Hannah Elizabeth.
