Application Procedures

The Resident Selection Committee evaluates each applicant’s personal statement, Medical School Performance Evaluation, letters of recommendation, and USMLE scores (preferably 80 and above on the first attempt).  This evaluation, along with the committee’s interpretation of the applicant’s desire to become a pediatrician, determines which applicants are invited for interviews.  Interviews will be scheduled November 1st through January 15th.

International graduate applicants must be presently authorized to work in the United States for any employer on a full-time basis or be eligible to participate in the J-1 exchange visitor program sponsored by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).  Previous clinical experience in the United States is not a requirement nor is number of years since graduation from medical school.  International graduates need to have successfully completed USMLE Steps 1, 2CS, and 2CK at the time of application.

Applications for PL-1 positions are accepted from September 1st to December 15th of the year prior to appointment using the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).  Applications will not be accepted after the December 15th deadline.  Interviews are granted only after completion of the qualified candidate’s application.

Completed applications are accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service and include:

  1. The completed application including personal statement and the candidate's reason for pursuing pediatric training.
  2. Applicant's Medical Student Performance Evaluation
  3. Applicant's Medical School Transcript
  4. Three letters of recommendation
  5. USMLE or COMLEX Transcript
  6. Photograph

International graduates should also furnish:

  1. Copy of USMLE Transcript
  2. Copy of Medical School Diploma
  3. Statement of Visa status (where applicable)
  4. ECFMG Status Report
