Welcome to the residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University. Training in our ACGME accredited program offers exposure to the full range of obstetric and gynecologic subspecialties, while maintaining a focus on the primary care aspects of our specialty. Our fifteen full time faculty members include two maternal fetal medicine specialists, a gynecologic oncologist, and a reproductive endocrinologist. Our faculty is complemented by volunteer clinical faculty members who actively participate in the education of residents and medical students. Residency at Marshall provides a wealth of clinical experience. Our department does not offer fellowships, thus allowing residents to serve as the primary caregivers for patients on the subspecialty services.

Cabell Huntington Hospital serves as the primary training site for our residents. This facility is the tri-state area's largest provider of obstetrical, neonatal and gynecologic care. Subspecialty care is provided at several facilities located on the Cabell Huntington Campus. The new  Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center allows our physicians to provide care for gynecologic malignancies in a state of the art facility. The Center for Advanced Reproductive Medicine, located within Cabell Huntington Hospital, exposes the resident to assisted reproductive technologies including in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).   The Perinatal Center provides the resident physicians with exposure to prenatal diagnosis and ultrasound, genetic counseling, and evaluation of fetal health. Women with pregnancies complicated by hypertension receive specialized care in the Maternal Hypertension Center. Our program also utilizes Saint Mary’s Medical Center  and the Cabell Huntington Surgery Center to provide benign gynecologic procedural opportunities..

As you explore our program, you will see that we are truly committed to medical education. Residents are scheduled one half day per week of protected academic time. Faculty is either scrubbed or immediately available for all surgical procedures and patient encounters to provide education and supervision. We easily comply with the American Council  for Graduate Medical Education  (ACGME) duty hour requirements through use of a night float system for after hours coverage.

Huntington offers a four season climate and abundant outdoor recreational activities. The main campus of Marshall University provides  all of the benefits and opportunities of  a major university including excellence in education, arts, entertainment, and major college athletics. Information about  the City of Huntington and surrounding Cabell County is provided by  The Cabell Huntington Convention & Visitors Bureau.

We welcome your questions and would love to show you our commitment to education as you explore your options for residency training.
