Ovarian Cancer Awareness

The goal of the program, Reaching Out…Raising Ovarian Cancer Awareness in WV, is to reach WV women, particularly rural and minority women with limited access to medical care and information, and to raise their awareness of the symptoms and risk factors associated with ovarian cancer.

Reaching Out is funded by WV Department of Health and Human Resources’ Comprehensive Cancer Control program and implemented in partnership with Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. The coordinator's office is located in  the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center, adjacent to Cabell Huntington Hospital in  Huntington, West Virginia.

The ovarian cancer  support group, Sharing, affiliated with  the West Virginia Division of  the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition,  has published a cookbook, Sharing Our Best.  The cookbook contains fabulous recipes from survivors, family members and friends along with information about ovarian cancer  and  photos from past events.   As an act of gratitude, the members dedicated the cookbook to the compassionate and dedicated health care professionals at Cabell Huntington Hospital who facilitate healing and allow patients to live fuller lives once diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Their heartfelt gratitude  was  expressed to  Dr. Gerard Oakley, gynecologic oncologist, and Vicki Donald, RN at the dedication ceremony, pictured above.

The cookbooks sell for $20 and may be purchased  at the Cabell Huntington Hospital Gift Shop
or by contacting Mary Glenn Rice at 304-453-2068.
