The Robert W. Coon Medical Education Building, commonly known as the MEB, is an 85,000 square foot, four story facility constructed in the late 70's and located on the campus of the Huntington VA Medical Center (VAMC). It houses biomedical science classrooms and laboratories, faculty offices, research laboratories and support facilities for the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. Medical students receive a portion of their basic sciences education at the facility, including their gross anatomy course. In addition, it houses a satellite location of the Health Sciences Library and a 9,000 square foot Animal Resource Facility. In 1998 a 40,000 square foot Research Addition was added by the VAMC behind the MEB. This addition contains additional faculty research laboratories and support facilities, many of which are occupied by School of Medicine faculty through lease and sharing agreements.
