Sorry, your browser doesn't support Java(tm). As Chairman of the Department of Anatomy, Cell and Neurobiology, and Course Director, I am pleased to welcome you to this website which provides information on the Gross Anatomy Course and its faculty. The study of gross anatomy and its cognate disciplines and functional interrelationships serve as a foundation on which an understanding of clinical medicine is built. The course which begins for first-year students during orientation week in early August, truly signals the beginning of their medical education. People are the center of this course, both those who are learning and those who contribute to learning.

Anatomical dissection of the bodies of fellow human beings, who have generously donated their remains to further medical education, is the basis of our educational process. Our medical students are provided the opportunity to fully dissect a cadaver during the course, but are only required to actively participate in one-half of the dissections. After the introductory dissection, students self-select the two other regional dissections they will participate in over the semester.

Faculty members teaching in the course are frequent recipients of “Professor of the Year” awards from the first year students. The course and faculty teaching in it receive very favorable student evaluations.

The course continues to evolve and we accept, appreciate and welcome input from students in this evolutionary process, whether it be requests, problems or compliments.
