1984 is inducted as an ACR Fellow

Dr. Matthew M. Ralsten, Class of 2002, received the “2003 Outstanding
Resident Teacher Award” voted on by the West Virginia University 3rd
year medical students.
The
following awards were made during the Annual Resident/Fellow/Faculty
Recognition on June 16, 2003, at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in
Jacksonville, Florida. Congratulations to our graduates.

2002 Outstanding Course Director - James S. Scolapio, MD
Dr. Scolapio was selected for the 2002 Outstanding Course Director by the
Mayo School of Continuing Medical Education based on his continuing support
of medical education programs within the Department of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Scolapio is a 1991 graduate of the Marshall University School of
Medicine.
Family Medicine Residency Program - Joseph G. Foust, MD
Dr. Joseph C. Foust joined the MGSM Family Medicine Residency Program at
Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville after completing medical school at Marshall
University. He has been active with several studies within the Family
Medicine program and has served as the President of the Florida Association
of Family Practice Residents. He has received quarterly awards for
education. Dr. Foust will be starting a private clinic in Vidalia, Georgia
with his wife, Dr. Nancy Elwood.
Family Medicine Residency Program - Nancy S. Elwood, MD
Dr. Elwood joined the MGSM Family Medicine Residency Program at Mayo Clinic,
after completing medical school at Marshall University. She represented the
Residency Program at several meetings of the Florida Academy of Family
Physicians, and at the National Meeting of The American Academy of Family
Physicians. Dr. Elwood will be starting a private practice in Vidalia
Georgia with her husband, Dr. Joseph Foust.
Internal
Medicine Residency Program - Michael D. Cooper, MD
Dr. Cooper joined the MGSM Internal Medicine Residency Program at Mayo
Clinic, Jacksonville after completing medical school at Marshall University.
He has completed a book chapter on Thrombosis in Coronary Artery Diseases.
During his residency Dr. Cooper received the Golden Apple Award for
outstanding teaching twice. He also received the Peer Selected Award and
the Antonelli Award. Dr. Cooper has accepted a Cardiology Fellowship at the
Ohio State, Columbus, Ohio.
Pulmonary
Medicine fellowship Program - Michael C. DeArment, MD
Dr. DeArment joined the MGSM Pulmonary Medicine Fellowship Program after
completing an Internal Medicine Residency at Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville. He
is a 1998 graduate of the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of
Medicine. He has two papers submitted for publication and presented four
abstracts at the American Thoracic Society International Conference. During
his fellowship, he received the American College of Chest Physicians
Pulmonary Fellowship Scholarship and the American Society of Transplant
Trainee Award. Dr. DeArment has accepted a fellowship at Mayo Clinic,
Rochester in Critical Care Medicine.
