A physician must possess the ability, knowledge and skill to function in a variety of clinical situations and to render a broad spectrum of patient care. All candidates for admission must be able to perform the essential clinical as well as academic requirements of the medical education program. Applicants with disabilities which may compromise either their education process, the education process of classmates or the practice of medicine may be invited to undergo an examination by an appropriate faculty member.
The clinical and academic requirements of the medical education program include the capacity to observe and communicate, sufficient motor ability to perform physical examinations and basic laboratory and diagnostic procedures, emotional stability to exercise good judgment and work effectively in stressful situations, and intellectual ability to synthesize data and solve problems. Reasonable accommodations will be made for applicants with handicaps who can meet these requirements.
